Our Mission

A message from our Chairman, Neil Macknight

Welcome to Houghton Rugby Union Football Club. Established in 1873, we are proud to be one of the oldest rugby clubs in England, and among the top five still playing at our original home on Dairy Lane.

Our mission is simple: to provide a friendly, inclusive environment where players of all ages can enjoy the sport they love. From the first time a child picks up a ball through to joining our senior squads, we’re here to support their development, passion, and enjoyment of rugby.

Over the past five years we have grown to be one of the largest mixed sex rugby clubs in the North of England. We are a small club who punches above its weight.

In support of this growth, we are excited to be undertaking a development which will extend our changing room facilities and improve accessibility to accommodate the needs of these diverse groups.

As an RFU accredited club, we are committed to being a safe, welcoming, and positive part of our community, opening our doors to local families, supporting good causes, and celebrating rugby together.
